What is ECU Tuning?
A few decades ago, some nerds figured out that computers allowed for incredibly precise control of internal combustion engines... thus the ECU was born.
The Engine Control Module, often shortened to ECU, ECM, or DME, is the electronic brain of all modern cars. Unfortunately, car makers must consider things other than performance when designing ECU software... leaving much to be desired.
Enter S4T... focused solely on providing properly developed ECU calibration software giving you the highest performing and best driving car possible.

Transmission (TCU) Tune
Transmission Control Unit - TCU tuning allows us to further refine the shifting speed, ferocity, and characteristics of various automatic, semi-automatic, and dual-clutch gearboxes.
- Improved acceleration times (1/4 mile, 60-130 mph, 100-150mph, etc.)
- Torque limiter adjustment
- Custom torque management
- Paddle-to-shift delay time improved
- Increased internal control pressures to support greater torque demands and prevent slip
- Launch Control Enhancement

Central Powertrain Controller (CPC) Tune
• The CPC is a separate module within the power-train control system
• All Mercedes cars equipped with a 9-speed MCT require CPC Tuning to unlock the eCU’s Full Potential
Here’s why:
• Top speed limiter
• Park neutral limiter
• Inter-cooler pump control
• Exhaust flap regulation
• Etorque limitation strategies
CPC Process:
• New Virgin CPC Module Shipped Upon Purchase
• New CPC must physically be installed
• CPC Tuning is conducted via OBD port
On The Fly Map Switching
• 4 Map slots available
• Map numbers are indicated by tachometer position (ex. 1000rpm = Map 1, 2000rpm Map, and so on)
• No laptop required for switching... All configurations are saved in the ECU and switchable as the driver wishes

ECU UNLOCK
"OBD"
ECU UNLOCK
"OBD"
OBD communication is awesome, tune and datalog your car easily from the drivers seat via the diagnostic port (OBD2) found under the dashboard. Tuning cable is shipped and instructions provided with purchase.

ECU UNLOCK
"Bench Flashing"

"Bench Flashing"
For certain models, the ECU must be removed and shipped to us so we can perform bench flashing. We’ll send you step-by-step removal and shipping instructions when you order

ECU UNLOCK
"FEMTO Unlock"
ECU UNLOCK
"FEMTO Unlock"
Any BMW produced after June 2020 requires a FEMTO Unlock. You’ll send your ECU to us, and we’ll pass it along to our associates in Europe for unlocking. Once unlocked, OBD tuning and data logging become possible. This entire process typically takes 10–14 business days. ECU removal and shipping instructions, plus an OBD device, are provided after purchase.

ECU UNLOCK
"S4T Special Unlock"
Some of the newest cars—like the 992 GT3 RS—come with enhanced ECU security measures. To tune these vehicles, you’ll need to remove the ECU and ship it to us; we then forward it to our European partners. These specialized unlocks can take four weeks or more to complete. You’ll receive detailed instructions with your purchase.

Frequently Asked Questions
Your questions, answered: Everything you need to know about Stage 4 Tuning
ECU tuning is the process of adjusting the engine control unit's software to enhance vehicle performance, efficiency, or fuel economy.
It can, depending on the manufacturer. Many warranties do not cover modifications like ECU tuning.
Use the highest octane fuel recommended for your specific tune to ensure optimal performance and safety.
Yes, a properly tuned car can be used daily, as long as the tune is tailored for reliable, everyday driving.
CPC (Central Powertrain Controller) and TCU (Transmission Control Unit) manage your vehicle's powertrain and transmission systems, respectively.
Map switching allows you to change between different tuning settings (maps) for varying driving conditions without having to retune the ECU.
Yes, if done by a professional using proper tools, ECU tuning is generally safe for your vehicle.
ECU tuning works by modifying the software that controls engine parameters like fuel mixture, ignition timing, and boost pressure to optimize performance.
The process of installing a tune depends on the vehicle’s make and model. Some tunes are installed by connecting a tuning device to your car’s OBD-II port and uploading the tuned software, others may require ECU unlock.
Stage 1 is for vehicles with no modifications, stage 2 is for vehicles with bolt-on upgrades or downpipes installed.
We offer post-installation support, troubleshooting, and guidance on using your tuning software and hardware.
Choose tuning software that is compatible with your vehicle, has good reviews, and suits your performance goals (e.g., reliability vs. max power).
