McLaren 720S – Valved Exhaust System

Double X-Pipe Architecture • Valve Flexibility

Overview

The McLaren 720S is one of the fastest production cars in the world, capable of sub-10-second quarter miles right off the showroom floor. But the 4.0L twin-turbo V8 doesn’t quite deliver the exotic sound experience to match its performance. The Valvetronic Designs Valved Exhaust System fixes that. This full 3.0" titanium system is engineered to sharpen throttle response, reduce weight, and unleash a refined yet aggressive motorsport soundtrack.

F1 System

The Valvetronic Designs F1 system uses our bespoke double x-pipe configuration to bring an exotic, high pitch tone to the 720s. These vehicles tend to sound flat with a single x-pipe, but our proprietary double x-pipe makes the 4.0L twin turbo V8 have similar sound characteristics to that of a flat plane crank Ferrari.

Valved System

Our design incorporates a valved X-pipe with an integrated muffler to bring balance and tone. The system offers a civil, comfortable driving experience with valves closed, and with valves open, it delivers an intoxicating, F1-inspired wail that truly matches the 720S’ supercar status. Controlled via a stand-alone vacuum valve system and key fob, the power to choose your soundtrack is always at your fingertips.

Sound & Driving Experience

Valves Closed: Subtle and composed, perfect for street driving or long highway cruises.

Valves Open: Crisp, high-pitched motorsport tone with a sharper edge—refined volume but unmistakably exotic.

With Free-Flow Downpipes (optional): Significant sound increase, faster spool, and paired with a proper tune, the system produces aggressive pops, crackles, and flames.

Engineering Highlights

  • Signature X-Pipe: Enhances harmonics and smooths the V8 tone into a cleaner, sharper sound.

  • 3.0" Mandrel-Bent Tubing: Ensures unrestricted flow and stronger top-end performance.

  • Valved Control: Stand-alone vacuum system with remote key fob for instant personality change.

ECU tuning is the process of adjusting the engine control unit's software to enhance vehicle performance, efficiency, or fuel economy.

It can, depending on the manufacturer. Many warranties do not cover modifications like ECU tuning.

Use the highest octane fuel recommended for your specific tune to ensure optimal performance and safety.

Yes, a properly tuned car can be used daily, as long as the tune is tailored for reliable, everyday driving.

CPC (Central Powertrain Controller) and TCU (Transmission Control Unit) manage your vehicle's powertrain and transmission systems, respectively.

Map switching allows you to change between different tuning settings (maps) for varying driving conditions without having to retune the ECU.

Yes, if done by a professional using proper tools, ECU tuning is generally safe for your vehicle.

ECU tuning works by modifying the software that controls engine parameters like fuel mixture, ignition timing, and boost pressure to optimize performance.

The process of installing a tune depends on the vehicle’s make and model. Some tunes are installed by connecting a tuning device to your car’s OBD-II port and uploading the tuned software, others may require ECU unlock.

Stage 1 is for vehicles with no modifications, stage 2 is for vehicles with bolt-on upgrades or downpipes installed.

We offer post-installation support, troubleshooting, and guidance on using your tuning software and hardware.

Choose tuning software that is compatible with your vehicle, has good reviews, and suits your performance goals (e.g., reliability vs. max power).
